The VMAs were incredible! We think it’s safe to say that we are all effectively shook.
From flawless vocal harmonies to killer outfits and some insane spin machines, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande's performance of Side To Side was truly incredible!
Nick Jonas had a performance to 'dine' for as he sung Bacon with Ty Dollar $ign. It was an outdoor performance, and also featured Nick walking through a diner (hence the pun) with a special cameo by DNCE!
Speaking of DNCE, they were honoured with the fan voted award for Best New Artist and we couldn’t be prouder! They looked amazing as they accepted their award, and we all know that this is only the start of something brilliant for them!
Halsey took to the stage to perform Closer with The Chainsmokers, and we couldn’t be prouder of her! They both sounded their best as they sang, and they added a whole new meaning to the word “closer” when they got very intimate with each other on stage. We, as her fans, won’t be forgetting that performance any time soon, and when you watch it, you won’t forget it either!
Rihanna had a whopping total of 4 PERFORMANCES, and literally none of them were a disappointment. She sung a list of her hits *she literally has so many hits that we have an easier time keeping up with the Kardashians than we do with keeping up with her hits*. She sung songs like Work, Rude Boy, Stay and many more!
Britney Spears came back to perform at the VMAs for the first time in 10 years and had us SLAIN with her performance of Make Me. It was sensual, the dance moves were flawless and G-Eazy looked (and sounded) spectacular!
The VMAs also acted as the platform for Kanye West to premiere his new music video for Fade. But before that, Kanye gave a several minute long speech about a lot of things. He referenced how he always wants Beyoncé to win, and added that he loves all of us (and then swiftly adding that that’s why he called her). He acknowledged many of his friends in the audience, and gave a shout out to his wife Kim Kardashian, who watched her husband on stage with happiness and admiration.
Beyoncé stole the show with an absolutely breathtaking performance of…literally her entire album. She sounded flawless, she looked flawless, and she danced like she’s been doing it her entire life *which she ultimately has*. Her 15-minute performance left us gasping as she served the sass, and reminded EVERYONE of why she’s the actual queen.
Closing with the last song on her album (which is called Lemonade, in case you've been living under a rock), she made sure all the ladies got in Formation as they formed a giant female symbol on the stage, which everyone was able to see from an aerial point of view. Not one to disappoint, she had the entire crowd on their feet - praising the queen - and we were right there with them.
The show closed with Rihanna’s final performance of the night, and a speech by Drake. Drake’s speech was probably one of the most beautiful speeches we’d ever heard; he praised how Rihanna had managed to stay true to herself throughout her entire career, and many other things. Drake described how he’d met her for the first time back in 2005, and revealed that he’d been “In love with her since I was 22 years old” and collectively melted the hearts of millions of people all around the world. Following the speech, Rihanna accepted the Video Vanguard Award, which is a huge honour, and proves that dreams really do come true!
