Disney is set to feature its first gay character in their new live action remake of Beauty & The Beast!
The supporting character, LeFou, who’s Gaston’s best friend and sidekick, has a realisation in the film where he realises that he may actually have feelings for Gaston all along! Gaston is quite gorgeous though, despite how evil he is, so we can’t really blame LeFou for having a secret crush on him.
The director of the film, Bill Condon, said that “LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston, and on another day wants to kiss Gaston”. Which is totally understandable, as that really is a conventional part of being LGBTQ+! Condon also said that “he’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realising that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”
We think that’s going to be so sweet and cute! We can’t wait to watch the movie when it comes out! It’s going to be even more perfect than we thought! The movie is set to have one of the biggest box office opening weekends that Disney has ever had, and imagine that many children watching the film and seeing a gay character represented on the big screen!
Before the film comes out, you can watch LeFou sing “Gaston” in a little preview right here:
