Most of us will have our own faves when it comes to deciding which of the world’s top soccer players are the hottest.
But if there’s one player which most polls agree on, it has to be Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese superstar seems to be in everyone’s top ten – whether or not they actually like the famously arrogant Real Madrid player. And it’s not hard to see why. This is the man who really does seem to have it all. For a start, he’s regarded as the world’s best or second best player; depending on where exactly you stand in the ongoing Ronaldo versus Messi debate.
Secondly, he’s played wonderful soccer and wowed the crowds at the world’s two biggest clubs in the world’s two biggest leagues now for over 13 years. A then 18-year-old Ronaldo joined Manchester United in time for the 2003–04 season where he wore the famous number seven shirt - previously worn by legends George Best, Eric Cantona and David Beckham. The signing made his the most expensive for a teenager in British history.
Then, after six hugely successful years at United, he signed for Spanish giants Real Madrid for a world record fee – and the rest is history as they say. Whilst at Real, he’s won consecutive Ballon d'Or titles, a La Liga winner’s medal, two Champions League winner’s medals and, of course, a Euro 2016 winner’s medal – along with a host of other titles and prizes.
As things stand, his club Real Madrid are 7/2 second favourites to win the current Champions League, and Ronaldo is available at odds of just 1/7 to win the 2016 Ballon d’or world player of the year. In other words, he’s looking like a complete shoo-in to make it a fourth such title.
And of course, to top it all off, Mr Ronaldo also has a body to die for and matinee idol good looks. And that’s what we’re talking about here – as opposed to a bunch of gongs and trophies. But being such a great player and winning pretty much everything at the same time must do quite a bit to fuel Cristiano’s arrogant swagger.
But who else deserves a mention on the great looking list? Well how about Arsenal’s suave Gallic frontman Olivier Giroud? He turns a lot of female heads and a few male ones too – whether out of desire or jealousy. Or how about the baby-faced 25-year-old Spaniard, Marc Bartra? He's currently plying his trade for German giants Borussia Dortmund. Barta regularly makes best-looking soccer lists and is six years Ronaldo’s junior.
Oh, and for the best-looking star of the future, we have to consider 2014 World Cup star James Rodriguez. The Colombian plays alongside Ronaldo at Real Madrid and is hot on and off the field. Not only did he make headlines with his wonder goal in Brazil, but his chiselled features and good looks have been likened to his team-mate Ronaldo's as well.
And last but not least, how about a bit of Australian talent in the shape of 24 year-old goalie Maty Ryan? Maty plays his soccer in Spain at Valencia CF where things also get pretty hot!
Who's your fave soccer star? Did they make our list?
